Today, 5th of June 2014, is the World Environment Day. On this occasion, OLVEA Fish Oils presents its sustainable development policy, implemented by its dedicated department (composed of 3 persons): values, commitments, actions.
3 aspects of sustainable development
For OLVEA, sustainable development means reconciling economic efficiency with social fairness and the protection of the environment, in a process of continuous improvement. OLVEA contributes to the worldwide sustainable development effort by minimizing the ecological footprint of its productions.
The sustainable development policy of OLVEA is focused on the 3 pillars of sustainable development:
– Economical: steady growth, customer’s satisfaction, business relationships;
– Social: act as a responsible employer, be involved in civic life;
– Environmental: environmental stewardship, fish oils made from sustainable fishing, valorization of the productions’ by-products, creation of sustainable and eco-friendly supply chains.
All of OLVEA’s commitments are written down in its sustainable development charter. Furthermore, OLVEA Fish Oils is certified Friend of the Sea (sustainable fishing) since April 2011.
Philanthropy
OLVEA is driven by a desire to support social causes in the regions where it is located; thus, it has created its own Philanthropic Fund in 2007. Since then, it has carried out several actions in France and abroad; restoration of a church in Fécamp, literacy campaigns in Burkina Faso, tuition and financial aid for students in Fécamp…
Nagoya protocol
OLVEA keeps a close eye on the setting up of the Nagoya Protocol, and issues arising from it. The Nagoya Protocol comes from the CBD, Convention on Biological Diversity, opened for signature at the Earth summit in Rio in 1992. It is the regulatory key element of the third pillar of the CBD: fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources. It is part of a desire to reduce inequalities in international trade through mechanisms regulated by national agencies. As Christophe Godard, Sustainable Development Manager of the OLVEA Group, explains: “At OLVEA, we make sure to stay informed about these new regulatory measures and combine our activities with their implementation. We will continue to prove that integrating a sustainable development approach into our daily operations is not only possible, but becomes necessary for our future. “.
